German side Schalke 04 is set to host Premier League giants Manchester United at the Veltins-Arena in their Champions League semi-final first leg clash.

Manchester United is enjoying an excellent league campaign in England sitting top of the Premier League table with four games left to play.

Schalke however has not had the best season in the Bundesliga sitting mid-table in 10th position with 40 points.

Schalke 04 defender Benedikt Hoewedes is doubtful for the Champions League semi-final first leg against Manchester United after picking up an abdominal muscle injury during their 1-0 defeat by Kaiserslautern on Saturday.

Striker Dimitar Berbatov will miss the trip after suffering a slight groin strain. Darren Fletcher, Owen Hargreaves and Bebe also remained behind in Manchester.

It is safe to say that the former Real Madrid star has single handedly carried Schalke to the Champions League semi-final and there is no indication that the Spanish striker is ready to stop anytime soon.

The UEFA Champions League’s all-time leading goalscorer has scored a total of 12 goals in the Bundesliga and 5 goals in the Champions League for Schalke and only the brave will bet against him scoring against Manchester United.

Even though much of the attention would be on star striker Wayne Rooney, Schalke must be wary of the threat posed by Portuguese winger Nani. His bursting speed and dribbling ability is sure to cause headache for the Schalke defence.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger however has said that Schalke has no chance against Manchester United as it would be bizarre to see a team who are struggling in mid-table in their own domestic championship win the Champions League.
