Sevilla FC 4-3 Athletic Bilbao – Match Highlights
Luis Fabiano and Frederic Kanoute each scored twice as 10-man Sevilla continued their remarkable stranglehold over Athletic Bilbao with a 4-3 win at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in an incident-packed encounter.
Two goals from Luis Fabiano – his first in La Liga this season – and a Kanoute penalty looked to have Sevilla cruising to victory at 3-0 midway through the second half.
However, the sending-off of Sevilla left-back Fernando Navarro in the 65th minute gave Athletic an unexpected lifeline and they seemed set to take it as in-form Spain striker Fernando Llorente struck twice in four minutes to make it 3-2 in the 77th minute.
The Basque side’s attempted fightback was cut short in controversial circumstances, though, as Sevilla were awarded a highly-disputed penalty 60 seconds later, which Kanoute successfully slotted home.
That appeared to knock the stuffing out of Athletic and, although they pulled another goal back deep into injury time through Igor Gabilondo, Sevilla held on to pick up their fourth win of the season.
It also maintained Sevilla’s remarkable home record against Athletic.
