Nemanja Vidic To Miss The Community Shield Against Chelsea
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that central defender Nemanja Vidic will miss the start of the Barclays Premier League season.
It is revealed by Sir Alex that Vidic has been ruled out of the Community Shield against Chelsea on Sunday at Wembley and the following game with Birmingham because of a persistent calf injury.
Another defender, Wes Brown is also sidelined this weekend with a thigh problem but is expected back in time for the opening league match while veteran defender Gary Neville is unavailable because of a groin strain.
Meanwhile goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has been ruled out for up to 10 weeks with broken fingers and that has left Sir Alex Ferguson with a headache of choosing between Ben Foster and Tomasz Kuszczak against Chelsea.
Both played a half in the game against Valencia in midweek and Ferguson admitted that he has a selection dilemma as to who plays in goal on Sunday and that it is not an easy for him to choose.
